As the Community Manager of DASH Action Figures, and long-time collector that I am, you might expect my story to be complex and exciting. But my collecting story started much like anyone's: on the floor. To the average person, a floor is nothing more than something to stand on. But to action figure lovers who grew up with their toys, a floor becomes a whole new world. It becomes home to limitless imagination and untold landscapes. It can be a bustling city street, a desolate apocalyptic wasteland, a wrestling mat, or even the long lost city of Atlantis. Our floors were given life by our figures, and our figures were given life by us. I like to think that my figures even gave me a little life along the way too.
So a normal person might stand on a floor, but my hopes and my imaginations and my fantasies all stood on that same floor. As we grow up our action figures move from the floor to crowded closets and bulging toy boxes, then they're hidden away from shameful teenage eyes, only occasionally dusted off for a memory or two. Then somewhere down the line, our figures take us by the nostalgia and consume us once again. We're taken back to those ancient battlefields and limitless opportunities. We're given a second look into the life of our once-great friends, and that's when our collections truly begin.
Like many, I collect what I loved as a kid. I also like action figures just for being toys, and find myself taking in strays that seem to need a home. So my collection might seem varied, a little random, and even somewhat senseless. That's the way kids buy toys, and I still try to do the same today.
Thanks for taking the time to read, and I hope you enjoy spending some time with my collection. I also hope you take the time to share yours with me.
