On February 7, 2009, Mattel revealed the lineup for the ninth wave of the line at the 2009 New York Comic Con. Fan favorites Green Arrow and Black Canary make their debut. One of the villains in the wave, Mantis, has a 50/50 split consisting of his comic book counterpart and his depiction in the Super Powers line. A Guardian variant was initially shown, but was scrapped in favor of a Wildcat variant.  Some specialty stores only received a fraction of their pre-orders from Mattel.
A build-a-figure is an action figure who can be assembled by purchasing other action figures, each of whom comes with a piece of the BAF's body. The Collect and Connect for this wave is Chemo, the arch-nemesis of the Metal Men, in his modern form..  Wave 9 included the following figures with respective build-a-figure pieces: Wildcat  (Upper/Middle Torso); Deadshot (Right Arm); Guardian (Right Leg);  Black Adam (Left Leg); Mantis (Left Arm); Black Canary (Torso); Green Arrow (Figure Stand).
Chemo is a fictional supervillain that appears in comic books published by DC Comics. The character first appeared in Showcase #39 (July - Aug. 1962) and was created by writer Robert Kanigher and artists Ross Andru and Mike Esposito.  Debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character has appeared in both comic books and other DC Comics-related products such as animated television series and trading cards.
