DASH Action Figures Tournament: Elite 8

April 2nd 2013

Action figure lines have been battling it out in the DASH Action Figures Tournament for more than a week, and the final eight teams have finally been decided. Who will emerge from this incredible group to become a part of the Final Four?

That depends on DASH users like you. There are only eight teams that made it into this round, and only eight lines left for you to support. You can see in the fully-updated tournament bracket below (click for a full size version).

The upsets continue to roll in and two 1 seeds finally fell in the in the previous round. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was unable to overcome the breadth of figures in the Spawn line, and Mego's World's Greatest Super Heroes fell to an active group of modern day Captain Action fans supporting their hero. The other two 1 seeds, Transformers and Marvel Legends squeaked by and live to face two intimidating challengers, specifically the apparently-unstoppable 14 seed Simpsons and the powerhouse Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Things are really starting to heat up. If you have any idea who is going to win these matchups, then you've got a better idea than me. There's never been a better time to show your support. If you have a line you want to see in the next round, click their link below and explore that section of the catalog to help them win.

DASH Action Figures Tournament Elite 8

1. Transformers (Generation 1) vs. 2. Star Wars (The Empire Strikes Back)
These two lines practically defined the 1980s era of collecting. Star Wars was absolutely everywhere and had become a true household name, while Transformers was revolutionizing the ways kids played and companies marketed toys. Making a decision between a new Transformer or a new Star Wars figure was nearly impossible back then, and deciding between the lines is still nearly impossible today.

2. Star Wars (Power of the Force II) vs. 4. Spawn
It's easy to forget how big Star Wars was in the '90s. Everyone was buying this revived collector line, and you still see the figures all over the place today. But Spawn was changing the industry to its core and had an incredible following in comic shops and toy stores across the world. Will the influence of Spawn be enough to overcome the pure brute force of Star Wars collectors?

3. G.I. Joe vs. 4. Captain Action
G.I. Joe started it all, finally converting dolls into "action figures". And in many ways, Captain Action further refined that trend by taking everything one step further and improving upon it. There's no doubt that Captain Action is a considerable underdog, but the brand has a rabid following here on DASH, and it's going to take a strong effort from the Joes of the world to defend their brand.

1. Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) vs. 14. The Simpsons (Playmates)
Like the rest of the world, I didn't expect The Simpsons to make it this far, yet a strong and consistent following on DASH has allowed them to sneak past a few opponents. But Marvel Legends is the first major hurdle the Simpsons will have to face, and I wonder if the line will be able to overcome one of the most important and substantial action figure lines in history.

These are the most exciting matchups we've had yet, and I really can't wait to see how they unfold. No matter the results, we're going to end up with an iconic and competitive Final Four, but it'd sure be fun to see a 14 seed make it all the way! Just be sure to click the above links and view these lines in the catalog within 24 hours to ensure their victory! All views will be tallied at 5:01pm ET on April 3rd, so don't hesitate to support your team!
