Hot Toys Reveals The Lone Ranger Tonto

Sept. 5th 2013

If you anxiously wait in anticipation for each new Hot Toys figure reveal, you're definitely not alone. But this latest figure from The Lone Ranger might not be good enough to overcome the disappoint movie on which it's based.

At the theater, The Lone Ranger left moviegoers cold. Despite its disappointing box office and critical results, it's hard to be disappointed by a Hot Toys figure. In fact, this incredibly realistic take on Johnny Depp as Tonto more than makes up for the weak film, and should allow the figure to stand on its own accord as a unique and appealing collectible. Check out all the details and latest images from Hot Toys below.

The Lone Ranger: 1/6th scale Tonto Collectible Figure

Eccentric roles are Johnny Depp’s specialty. In Disney’s The Lone Ranger, Johnny Depp has given an interesting performance as the peculiar Native American Tonto. Despite their initial differences, Tonto has partnered up with his “Kemo Sabe”, the Lone Ranger, and rode together in an adventure to bring justice in the Old West

The movie-accurate Tonto Collectible Figure is specially crafted based on the image of Johnny Depp as Tonto in the movie which features a detailed head sculpt with face paint, real fabric hair, weapons and a number of finely-made tribal accessories.

I haven't seen the movie, but i know enough about toys to say this one looks pretty amazing. The head sculpt and paint applications are the typical Hot Toys masterpiece, made most obvious by the deep cracks and rich textures. The various elements of his headdress lay perfectly, and the rooted hair is a much better fit on this figure than the typical sculpted variety. The costume and accessory details are equally impressive. The only real weak point with this figure is the visible articulation in the arms, but the wash applied to the skin does help pull the eye away from the broken visuals.

Even if you hated the movie, there are a lot of things to love about this figure. Johnny Depp fans have a great figure to add to their collection, and die hard movie collectors have a fun talking point too. Anyone who decides to buy this figure despite the film certainly won't be alone.
