Mattel's history with the Ghostbusters franchise is a troubled one at best, but that hasn't stopped them from moving forward with the license to the upcoming movie. At least director Paul Feig seems reasonably excited about the impending figures, taking to Twitter to tease a first look at the movie's four main characters in plastic form.
Below you'll see prototype versions of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon wearing their standard costumes from the film. Whether or not you like the character designs, these seem like faithful adaptations.
It's hard to tell from a single photo, but it does seem like Mattel learned at least one lesson from their previous attempt at Ghostbusters: don't use the same tooling for every character's body! There are distinct body-types across every figure in this set! If you can't tell, look closely at the neck-lines and you'll see the distinctions between each chest-piece. Mattel doesn't appear to be skimping on basic tooling, and that's a great first step.
I'm curious what other characters or ghosts (if any) will appear in this line. These figures do look like they'll fit into the scale and style of the previous Ghostbusters line, giving us a nice unified line across eras of the franchise.
